Thanks for stopping by and spending time with me.

I’m more determined to not give up.   This same time last year I would’ve given up.   The other night I went live on instagram, facebook, periscope, and youtube.   About 3 people showed up.   It was crickets.   But 3 people showed up!   The view count afterwards on facebook for the video, have jumped to close to 50+.   I don’t think it means full views, but it boosts my ego a bit.

Everyday I listen to self development/personal development material.   A point which continues to come up or the one of the many little nuggets I continually gravitate to, is to not give up.   Keep going.   Even when it seems no one is paying attention.

I did make mistakes the other night when I went live.   I said I would come on at 10 pm EST, I came on around 10:14 pm.   I also think I came on too late.   I may have had better results coming on at 8pm EST instead.   These days I’m all about experimenting and seeing what works and what doesn’t.   Experimenting has made me better at podcasting, blogging, reselling, kindle publishing, in my artwork and writing.   There was a time I wouldn't label it experimenting.   I would call it stumbling, fumbling along, making mistakes as I progressed.

This scenario of putting something out and hearing crickets isn’t new to me.   There have been times when I’ve invited ‘friends’ on social media to come out to parties and no one showed up.   There was a time when I had my very own dancehall class and only one person showed up.   Maybe I haven’t a track record of giving value.   Repeatedly and constantly.   Maybe I haven’t spent enough time giving support, building relationships.   Simply put, maybe I haven’t given enough.

In the end, been there done that.   I half expect it.    Again its failure and mistakes which are precious.    How many other variations of a particular action can one try?    What perfect storm of ease of use and best results can one combine, that works for you?

Where am I experimenting now?   Youtube mostly.   I’m thinking of going the route of recording everything in video, then turning it into audio for the podcast.

Two podcasts I listened to this week.   One was titled ‘How to Create and Evaluate a Successful YouTube Framework’ by Tim Schmoyer from Video Creators and ‘Podcasting Pet Peeves by My Listeners’ Dave Jackson from the School Of Podcasting.   Similar takeaways I had from both of these podcasts:

  • Get right into the content.   30 seconds or less on your intro.   Even less on Youtube.   Just get into it.   No meandering.
  • You have the content.   Spend time on a better headline.   With Youtube particularly, spend time on the thumbnail.   Mr. Schmoyer even suggests work on the headline and thumbnail first before putting out the content.
  • 2 Calls to action at the end.   Not too many.   You don’t want to confuse the listener/viewer.
  • Always elicit the listener/viewer’s feedback.   This is what makes podcasting and Youtube much more personal than watching TV or reading a book.    It makes the listener/viewer feel like you are talking directly to them.

That stuff is gold.

I just finished a drawing on Procreate.   I’ve been experimenting there.    Using photos for backgrounds and textures for my art, which I think is so cool.   Going out taking pictures and using them as part of your artwork, love that.   There is a ‘Go Live’ feature in Procreate using Periscope.   I will start that tomorrow.

The key of this video/podcast is to not quit.   Even when there are crickets.    Keep building your content, keep building those muscles in whatever it is that you choose to do.    There will be crickets for a while, but do you love doing what you're trying to build?   Is it fun for you?   Don’t just do it for money, do it because you love it!   Help people with what you do if you can, give what you can and build others up.    But don’t forget to take care of yourself first.

I’ve often heard in other podcasters say that once a fan finds you, loves you, they often will go back and seek out all of your older content.

The attention and money comes when you help people get what they want.    These last few lines are repeated personal development memes.   I believe them.   It’s feels fantastic when I help people out.

Be the best YOU by not quitting on YOU.
